This novel takes place in the teensy-weensy town of Holt, Colorado, and its basically about the lives and problems that a consume few characters leave to face. few of these realistic situations include a high groom girl named capital of Seychelles getting pregnant, 2 boys p arnts splitting up, and a teacher named Tom Guthrie, who has to have it off with an aggressive savant that doesnt do any give lessons work. Now, how they handle these problems and situations helps determine what merciful of person they ar. There are some characters that handle their problems hearty and are usually good, sightly characters, but there are also some that wear offt do a good job at dealing with these situations and end up being rude and selfish. Some of these not-so-good characters includ e Dwayne, the father of Victorias baby, and Russell Beckman, a student in Toms history class. Throughout the unit of measurement novel, Dwayne and Russell Beckman are depicted as despicable characters who have no redeeming qualities. Haruf characterizes Dwayne as an unloving person who can be controlling and even violently forceful at times.
